NHS figures have been publsihed which show that 11,362 patients were treated in mixed sex wards in December last year. The new rules in April will mean that hospitals have to pay £250 each day for each patient that is housed in a mixed sex environment.

The ‘Jade Goody effect’ that saw so many women go for cervical screening is wearing out and less women have come forward to be tested. Medical insurance company Pruhealth encourages its customers to go for health screening by offering them cheaper deals and reducing health insurance premiums when people do have screening.

The government announces plans to introduce a new scheme that will help to detect bowel cancer in the over 55′s. The plan, which will cost £60,000 will begin with a pilot next spring.
